President, Allen and Associates. (1999 to Present)
Allen and Associates is consulting firm that specializes in Leadership Coaching and Organizational Change that focuses on creating healthy organizations with strong leadership cultures. Clients include non-profit human services agencies, foundations, higher education, and businesses. A partial listing of clients can be found here.

Senior Fellow, Burns Academy of Leadership, University of Maryland. (1999 to Present)
Initiated, designed and developed a Consulting Center for the Academy of Leadership. This consulting arm of the Academy is now contributing a net profit to the Academy. Also engaged in research and writing on leadership.

Associate Professor, University of St. Thomas. (2001 to 2003)
Taught full-time in masters and doctoral programs in the Educational Leadership Department. Coordinated the start-up of the Leadership in Student Affairs Masters program. Currently I teach as an adjunct.

Vice President for Student Development, College of St. Benedict. (1991 to 1999)
Responsible for the leadership and management of the Student Development Division including: counseling and health education, career services, campus ministry, food service, multiculturalism, international students, housing and residence life, volunteer services, intramural sports, safety and security, campus center, leadership initiative, athletics, student activities, orientation, health services and student judicial system. Member: President’s Cabinet, Coordinate Cabinet, strategic planning task force, restructuring task force, retention committee and chaired the budget cross-functional task force for the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University.
Grants:
Wrote and received a $550,000 grant from W. K. Kellogg Foundation for leadership development on campus.
Collaborated in the design of a successful $1,000,000 Lilly Grant for vocational work with college students.

Vice President and Dean for Student Development, Mount St. Mary’s College. (1987 to 1991)
Responsible for the administration, finances, and leadership of the Student Development Division including: housing and residential life, student activities, health services, counseling, career counseling and placement, athletics, orientation, campus coordination of college retention program and student development outcome assessment. Served as a Title III Program Director 1987-1989 and supervised Title IV staff.
Grants:
Collaborated in the writing of a Title III grant, which resulted in an $890,000 three-year grant for the College.
Collaborated in the writing of a Title IV grant from the Department of Education, which resulted in a three-year renewable grant of $450,000.

Director of Comstock Memorial Union, Moorhead State University. (1979 to 1987)
Responsible for: the administration and management of the Student Union, including supervision full-time and part-time staff, budget development, financial management and maintenance of physical plant. Responsible for: the coordination of the University Leadership Development Programs, supervising the Student Union Program Board, and the computerized scheduling office. Member of university wide task force for enrollment management and chaired the student activity fee committee.

Director of Student Center and Student Activities, Southwest State University. (1975 to1979)
Responsible for: the administration and management of the Student Center, Scheduling Office and Conference Housing Program. Responsible for: administration of student activities program including advisement of the Student Activities Committee and other clubs and organizations. Also responsible: for providing resources and training in leadership and student development to student groups.

In the past five years Kathleen E. Allen has been involved in a wide variety of change efforts in various organizations.

Coaching executives who are instigating cultural change in their organizations. |
Coaching teams, groups of executives, and executive committees of boards of directors who are interested in improving services, strengthening their organization, strengthening their board of directors. |
Facilitating collaborative enterprises between non-profit organizations. |
Full scale organizational change targeted in shifting the leadership culture from hierarchical leadership to shared leadership. |
Facilitating discovery task forces and design processes to help integration of different organizational cultures for organizations that are merging. |
Developing a mentoring / staff development program for employees of a firm. |
Consulting with senior leadership teams to improve their learning and leadership capacity. |
Qualitative assessments of attitudes and issues with employees in organizations. This is often an aspect of my coaching and cultural change work. |
